Renowned for her complex musical sensibility and supple sound, Croatian jazz vocalist Astrid Kuljanic has recently performed in Manhattan at Jazz Gallery, St. Peter’s Church and New York Live Arts.
Whether interpreting American Songbook classics, jazz or Brazilian standards or delivering her original music or re-imagined folk songs with live electronics, Ms. Kuljanic envelopes audiences into her music.
In Eastern Europe she has performed at Lisinski Concert Hall Zagreb, Croatian House of Culture Rijeka, Stara Elektrarna, Ljubljana, and at the Maribor, Lent, and Europafest, Bucharest festivals. With her quintet ‘Mildreds’ she has released two albums for the major Croatian label Aquarius Records, and is currently promoting her solo album “Manhattan Dream.”
Ms. Kuljanic is founder and director of the Crescendo Music Festival, Cres, Croatia, which she established to showcase established and emerging musicians and local artists.
Astrid holds degrees from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in chemical engineering, and from the Conservatory G. Tartini, Trieste, Italy, where she was a scholarship music student. There she began exploring electronic music with Klaus Gesing, and has since gone on to study with Theo Bleckmann and Gretchen Parlato at Manhattan School of Music.
“Astrid possesses an impressive and broad range and color of vocal jazz palette as well as a seminal talent for coherent improvisation, and above all, the absolute control and refinement of intonation.” – Zdenko Sulc, Novi List 2013 (CRO)
