DAVI VIEIRA was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, studied percussion, capoeira and dance. As a percussionist and vocalist Davi has contributed to recordings, share stage and/or toured live with such great artists as Sergio Mendes, Gilberto Gil, Angelique Kidjo, Carlos Santana, Carlinhos Brown, Siedah Garrett (Michael Jackson’s vocalist) Forro in the Dark, Bebel Gilberto, Patrícia Marx, Steve Earle, Talib Kweli, Sun Ra, Gogol Bordello, Yerba Buena, Me’Shell Ndege’Ocello, Richard Bona, David Byrne, Alexander Kogan, Maria de Barros,Tony Mola/Bragadá, Muzenza and more. He was a co founder of Brazil’s Hip Hop group MD MCs. MD MC’s appear on Tommy Boy’s Planet Rap compilation and have released CD and music video (Você Me Deixou) in Brazil with EMI records. Davi’s hands could be seen on the opening footage of Ivete Sangalo’s Madison Square Garden DVD playing urban objects around the city of New York. He was a member of the Off-Broadway show STOMP for ten years. Currently he leads and fronts a band that support the music of his album Ghetto Linha 8.
Davi’s music is a modern exploration of the sound of Bahia, Brazil -a foray into a part of Brazilian Music and Culture that is unique to Salvador and its universally distinct African Rooted traditions.
