In Festejation, singer Christelle Durandy teams up with bassist and composer Edward Pérez to present a night of danceable Peruvian songs, ranging from invigorating festejos to sultry landos. The group freely combines traditional Afro-Peruvian elements with jazz, funk, and other latin styles, creating a vision of costal Peruvian music that could only come from New York.
Vocalist Cristelle Durandy is equally at-home in styles ranging from Salsa to Jazz, Funk and Soul. Since arriving in New York, she has become a mainstay on the latin scene, appearing with groups such as Cocomama, Paul Carlon Octet, and Gerardo Continuo. Her voice combines a rich sweetness that can make an entire room silent on the edge of their seats with an infectious energy that leaves no choice but to dance.
Edward Pérez has performed with many of the greats in the Afro-Peruvian genre (Eva Ayllón, Chocolate Algendones, Juan Medrano Cotito, Sergio Valdeos, Chevo Ballumbrosio, Gigio Parodi, etc), as well as heavyweights in jazz such as Paquito D’Rivera, Greg Osby, Lee Konitz, and The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. His arrangements have been performed by the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, The Silk Road Ensemble, Ignacio Berroa, and Cristina Pato in venues that include The Kennedy Center, Chicago Symphony Center, and Boston Symphony Hall.
