Ian is a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer and educator based in the Philadelphia area. He has played his original music at Smalls Jazz Club, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, and various clubs around Japan. His debut record, “Glasswork,” is the culmination of years of writing introspective jazz and honing it with live performances around the greater Philadelphia area. His second album as leader, Dreams of Daedalus, is the debut of his big band Slowbern and also features entirely original compositions and arrangements. Since July 2016, Ian has been a member of the USAF Band of the Golden West in Fairfield, CA and tours the west coast region. Prior to that he toured the world with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for 7 years.

“…comes out of the gate a fully formed talent… O’Beirne’s alto and tenor saxes parallel those of Dave Binney and Donny McCaslin, respectively: very modern, very palatable and most importantly for his songs, very melodic… a smashing start for Ian O’Beirne.” – S. Victor Aaron, Something Else Reviews

“His playing flows with an appealing fluidity without resorting to torrential outpourings of sound.” – Lance Liddle, Bebop Spoken Here

“His compositions as well as his playing are introspective – more thoughtful consideration than flamboyance and all the more powerful and pleasing for that.” – Grady Harp, Literary Aficionado

“…mellifluously inflected lines, one sumptuous repast harmonizing with another.” – Mark S. Tucker, Fame Reviews
