2 SETS 9:30 pm AND 11:00 pm

Joe Gallant & The Illuminati Orchestra – the premiere NYC avant-jazz-chamber-rock ensemble.

The Illuminati Orchestra has a rich 30-year NYC history and a much-documented national reputation for both its original music and its critically-praised arrangements of Grateful Dead music, under the composing/arranging pen of Joe Gallant, the group’s bassist, founder and leader.

lluminati started life as a trio on Oct 20, 1982, for its debut gig at Tramps in NYC. As the music evolved, additional members were added until the band reached its current 18-piece ensemble size around 1990.

Illuminati gigged frequently on the downtown new-music circuit, home-basing in La Mama and playing regularly at the first Knitting Factory, St. Marks Church, Judson Memorial Church, Sweet Basil, Wetlands and Theater for the New City, among many other spots around NYC. In this period, a labor-of-love reworking of the Grateful Dead’s “Unbroken Chain” caught the attention of a number of people in the Dead’s camp.

A commission in 1995 from the Dead’s production arm led to the reconstruction of the Grateful Dead’s “Blues for Allah” and Terrapin Station” albums (along with much of their other material) for Illuminati and many additional players. Special guests on these projects include Grammy winner Catherine Russell (who went on to sing with Illuminati for a year), Bill Walton, Pat Boone, Ike Willis, Maggie Roche, Patricia Barber and the legendary Jorma Kaukonen.

This eagerly anticipated Club Bonafide performance will be loosely themed “Half Joe, Half Dead”, as it will draw from both Illuminati’s Grateful Dead and originals catalogue. A deeply grooving, cinematic and sonically transportive time is guaranteed for all.
