Karen Tennison quickly became a household name in the Austin, Tx jazz scene. At the age of 12 she had already bought her first Ella Fitzgerald album, by 18 she was working to better her improvisational skills as a jazz vocalist, and at 25 she was playing gigs with the finest musicians in town at the most well-known venues. In 2017, her band was voted as one of the Top 10 performing jazz bands in the Austin, Texas area. When she moved in NYC in August 2017, Tennison really hit the ground running. Currently working on her masters degree in jazz performance, Tennison is under the tutelage of vocal phenom Aubrey Johnson at The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and is already playing regular gigs around the city. Tennison’s arrangements share both the traditional and contemporary side of jazz, creating a fun and intellectual listening experience.
