Kazuki Yamanaka, originally from Japan, is a multi-talented professional saxophonist, composer, bandleader and recording artist. He moved to New York to enter State University of New York Purchase College in 2012, where he took a master degree of music in 2014. He has studied with some of the most renowned masters such as Jon Gordon (sax), Gary Smulyan (sax), Hal Galper (piano), John Abercrombie (guitar), Jon Faddis (trumpet), Steve Wilson(sax) and Miguel Zenon (sax).
Kazuki Yamanaka recorded his debut album ”Songs Unconscious-minded” in June 2015 with some of the finest musicians of contemporary jazz scene, such as Gilad Hekselman (guitar), Fabian Almazan (piano), Linda Oh (bass) and E.J. Strickland (drums). The album consists of seven original compositions and his original arrangement of a Japanese folk song, and has been given 4 stars by one of the most famous jazz review websites in the world, ”All About Jazz”. The CD is on sale at CDBaby, iTunes and Amazon all over the world.
Right after the release of the album, he came back to Japan in September 2015. He has headlined his band’s tour in Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka during 2015 to 2016. As of November 2016, he is back in New York City with the artist visa to perform and record music for new projects. Recently he has pursued his own way as an improvisor and took private lesson with some of the most influential forces in the improvisational music scene such as Lee Konitz (sax), Tony Malaby (sax), Michael Attias (sax), Ralph Alessi (trumpet) and Tim Berne (sax).
