Private Event, Open to the Public

Makossa Monday is back at Club Bonafide in January with more treats for your listening pleasure!

At the crossroads of Benin’s traditional village rhythms, Caribbean styles and jazz, Jomion & The Uklos make festive, colorful music. From the coastal West African city of Cotonou, they amaze audiences at home and abroad with their furious rhythms and sweet, mystical harmonies. These excellent musicians joyfully flirt with reggae, salsa and jazz, building a vibrant, relaxed dance music. Their voices blend in melodious harmony, delivering messages of hope, faith and traditional wisdom. Their music is simultaneously complex, profound and simple. Their songs connect to the depths of human experience, while lightening the heart with joy.

For the first set at 8pm, special guest Mthakathi will be joining Jomion & the Uklos on stage. Singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Mthakathi (pronounced: (m-TAA-gaa-tee), conjures up music that draws from a lifelong immersion in South African culture; music that reflects a keen absorption of eclectic world elements; music that explores expression beyond borders; and music that rocks. An innovative song-smith, compelling lyricist, arresting guitarist and a spell-binding performer, Mthakathi – the “wizard,” the “witch doctor,” the “magic man,” the “inyanga  who mixes things that shouldn’t be mixed”- is a rock artist of world citizenry.

Sets followed by a DJ spinning African beats on stage for your listening pleasure.
