Hungarian-born Jazz Vocalist Nikolett Pankovits made a Magical Debut with Magia, a gorgeous and highly personal collection of traditional songs and standards of her youth with a luscious array of Latin American rhythms. Since settling in New York City in 2010, she has forged a singular body of music, grounded in the Old World but illuminated by the cultural mélange of the Americas. Pankovits’ music is an act of alchemy by a singer with an emotionally charged sound and story unlike anyone else on the today’s jazz scene.
“This evening Pankovits presents her project accompanied by her exceptional New York based musicians, interlaced with literary excerpts and poems performed by actor Ádám Boncz and two Hungarian folk musicians on traditional instruments.”
“Nikolett Pankovits makes a strong debut here, aided by Herrera’s skillful arranging and a strong supporting cast of musicians.” – All About Jazz (Mark Sullivan)
“This album contains some of the freshest vocals you’re going to come across this year.” – Jazz Weekly (George W. Harris)
“Nikolett Pankovits has crafted a singular sound on her self-released debut album Magia”.- Jazziz
“One can imagine her singing in a Hungarian bistro pouring her heart out.” – Downbeat (Bob Protzman)
“Beautifully moody, this is a most impressive debut.” – Culture Catch (Steve Holtje)
