Rene was born February 24, 1987 to a middle class family in Bogotá, Colombia. His family instilled with him at a young age the value of hard work and humility, which have been the most prominent factors pushing him to convert his dreams into reality. At age 15, Rene discovered his talent for composing song lyrics accompanied by his guitar. His passion as a composer rapidly began to grow and he shortly began to compose more and more songs. As Rene entered young adulthood, he became fond of audiovisual media as his music led him to explore the power of his talent to empower people through voice; because of this discovery, he decided to study social communication and radio production, but he never lost sight of his music.
During his career, Rene has performed at several university festivals and began to record his first album in Bogota, a project that for various reasons could not be completed. However, these efforts to showcase his music were not in vain, but served as a catalyst for Rene to take drastic steps to further push to accomplish what he truly wanted for his musical career. In 2013, Rene Mejía decided to leave his hometown to come to the worlds’ capital, New York. Rene hit the ground running and since coming to New York City less than two years ago, Rene has performed at various Hispanic, as well as government related events, including for the Colombian Consulate in New York, the Department of Small Business Services of the City of New York, many prestigious restaurants, and multiple fundraising events for various causes. His fans enjoy the musical versatility of his performance technique, and uniqueness as an artist.
In March 2015, Rene Mejía launched his first album, Corazón y Raíz, reveling his talent as a singer and composer in New York City. This album is a fusion, incorporating traditional Colombian instruments, mainstream beats, with common themes experienced by Latinos, and furthermore people everywhere.
