Born in Cuba, Poveda’s earliest influence was his grandfather, Marcelino Lopez, a folk singer. Poveda became an early member of the Nueva Trova movement in Havana. In 1989 he moved to Colombia where he became a T.V. star. However music was always a part of his life, and he continued to write his own music while acting. His talent eventually brought him to Miami where he wrote for the Latin market with publishers Peer Music. He currently lives in New York City and travels around the U.S and Europe performing his music.
