Ross Kratter Jazz Orchestra at Club Bonafide
May 23 | Set Times: 7:30 pm AND 9:30 pm
2 sets 7:30 pm AND 9:30 pm
The Ross Kratter Jazz Orchestra was founded by bass player, composer, and arranger Ross Kratter in 2010. Kratter’s compositions and arrangements, heavily influenced by Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Charles Mingus, Sy Johnson, and others, make up the majority of the band’s book; the rest of it is comprised of arrangements and compositions from other members of the band. The band has played all over New York to sold-out audiences since its founding in 2010.
Ross Kratter is a bassist and composer based in New York. He is equally at home on string bass and electric bass, both fretted and fretless, 4, 5, and 6 string. While primarily known as a jazz musician, he is equally comfortable in any and all styles of music. Ross has performed with such notable and varied artists as Joshua Redman, the Drifters, Bob Franceschini, Victor Wooten, Bob Reynolds, Mike Longo’s New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble, Randy Johnston, Badal Roy, Joe Alterman, Domenick Allen, Scott Record, Frank Lacy, the Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet, Allen Vizzutti, and many more. In addition to his work as a bassist, Ross is also in demand as a composer and arranger. He is the musical director, arranger, and bassist for vocal jazz quartet Transitory, among much other freelance work.
Ross has had the opportunity to study bass with Mike Richmond, Ron McClure, Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Anthony Wellington, Felix Pastorius, and John DeWitt. He has studied composition and arranging with Rich Shemaria and improvisation with Mike Stern.
Ross Kratter is a La Bella Strings artist.
