Jordan Scanella – bass, Shirazette Tinnin – drums
Johnson was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. There, he began playing and experimenting with guitars, at age 10. Largely self-taught, he developed individualistic approaches to music and his instrument– prior to receiving formal training. Inspired by his first teacher, Cleveland blues guitarist John Christopherson, Johnson delved deeply into the blues and finger-style guitar. Thus, though thoroughly exploring the outskirts of the guitar’s sound and timbre, and embracing his musical versatility, the blues has ultimately remained at the core of his style.
As a performer Johnson works with diverse artists such as Dee Dee Bridgewater and DVRK Funk, Shenandoah and The Night, People’s Champs and Kaissa Doumbe. His performance highlights include the Billboard Music Awards with Andy Allo (Las Vegas, 2013), North Sea Jazz Festival with Andy Allo (Netherlands,2013), African Diaspora Awards with Kaissa Doumbe (NYC, 2013), Couleur Cafe Festival with Andy Allo (Belgium, 2014), Afro Punk Festival with Jean Grae (NYC, 2014) and Big Wig Hip Hop Festival with Pharoahe Monch (Singapore, 2014).
