Stan Chovnick and Friends

We are all connected.
Jazz pieces influenced by music from different countries and cultures around the world. We are looking for this concert to be an occasion to bring people together-a global unity- with jazz pieces influenced by music from different countries and cultures around the world. Although we might come from different places and be brought up looking at the world in different ways, we are all connected and all people of the earth. Our similarities far out weigh our differences. Our differences should be embraced and looked upon as a way to expand our consciousness, our awareness and our horizons. Let us embrace each other, make the earth a better place and enjoy music together.

We will be performing many original compositions including various works composed and performed by Linda Presgrave from her Metropolitan Records CD’s “Along the Path” and “ Inspiration” including

* Rome (for Italy) (check out group performing this on you tube)
Linda Presgrave – YouTube
* Asakusa View ( for Japan)
* Colors of Collioure ( for France)
* Harbor Lights ( for Hong Kong)

* Stan Chovnick’s Universal Freedom recorded on “Along the Path”

The personnel for the concert will be:

Stan Chovnick- Soprano Sax, gongs and various percussion instruments
Linda Presgrave- Piano
Seiji Ochiai- Drums
Mary Ann McSweeney- Bass

Additional guest artists to be announced

Stan Chovnick, born in Brooklyn, began his musical training on trumpet but eventually switched to soprano saxophone after being influenced by the music of John Coltrane. Highlights of his jazz career include performances at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the famed Warwick Hotel New York, The Kitano Jazz Club and The Iridium Jazz Club along with music festivals in Italy and France.Stan is also president of the New York based label “Metropolitan Records.” He has produced over 20 CDs including critically acclaimed CDs such as Freddie Hubbard’s “Above and Beyond,” Billy Harper’s “Soul of an Angel” and a tribute CD to Rahsaan Roland Kirk entitled “ Haunted Melodies’. Stan is featured on pianist Linda Presgrave’s celebrated CDs “Along the Path,” “Inspiration” and “The Journey.”

“With all the problems the world is facing at this time, I felt a need to have a concert to do something to help heal the world. Music itself has the ability to help people transcend and rise above our differences and to unite with one another. This is the inspirations for tonight’s concert.” – Stan Chovnick
“Chovnick contributed the final work “Universal Freedom” to this recording (“Along the Path”) under the rubric of “Our Hope for the Future”. This minor blues (again evoking Coltrane)… has a fiery soprano solo along with solos from Presgrave and Herbert… It is a fervent performance that provides a strong ending to the outstanding “Along the Path.” – Ron Weinstock (2016 – Issue 364 Jazz & Blues)
“With the sax work of Chovnick and Herbert… one senses an old John Coltrane vibe.” – The Run Off Groove
