Brand new on the scene, the Binx is a NYC based blu-funk band with a Hip-Hop edge. Having crossed paths, these four distinct musicians – Adem Tesfaye (rhythm guitarist/singer/songwriter), John D Cotto (lead guitarist), Dorsey “Sky” Parker (drummer) and Paul Ogunsalu (bass) – bring their songs to life making them vibrate with a unique blend of soul and authenticity.

Adem Tesfaye is a Madison, WI. native, NYC based emcee/songwriter, Hip-hop guitarist, music producer whose music style has deep roots in Hip-Hop, funk, reggae and blues. Adem draws his inspiration from artists like Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Tribe Called Quest, Gang Star and the Roots. His craftsmanship of storytelling is unique and rhythmically hypnotic. Adem’s stature on stage and baritone voice ooze with sexy richness, heart felt warmth, life wisdom and command. Having lived in Seattle and NYC his sound is an elixir of grit, instrumentation, big stage performance and Broadway lights. Adem released two solo albums, D-iZ-lll “the Sickness” and “Athedage” with producer Rick Flowers, Mannie Sanchez and Matt Mueller and shared stage with acts like Red Man, Method Man, De la soul, Pharside, Ben Harper, Spearhead and Jazzmatazz. His latest projects include the Black Poet’s Society Reunion and the Binx, a NYC based blue funk band with a Hip-Hop edge.

At the age of 15, John D. Cotto fell in love with the sound of the Rock and Roll guitar and never looked back. He started by playing for countless Rock bands and eventually branched out to the Blues. Over the years John has further developed his style by playing jazz/fusion, funk, R&B, and progressive Rock. He has shared the stage with many artists playing second guitar for the Murali Coryell band and was part of “Room of Voices”, with Mingo Lewis where he collaborated with him to make the album “Temple Rhythm”. In addition, John worked with Mingo on his own solo record “Guitarwerks”. Currently he plays with acts such Michael LeMorin and the “Pawol” band, the Progressive Rock band “Prognosis”, and collaborates with Adem Tesfaye’s band “The Binx” where they fuse their own creative stylings to form what they call Blue/funk. John has developed into a guitarist with his own style that is surely unique whether he is playing rock, soul, blues, or jazz…it’s always fresh from the heart.

Dorsey “Sky” Parker is a New York City based drummer with a “tight” pocket” style of play. His music influences include Harvey Mason, Steve Ferron, Clyde and Jabo from The JBs. In addition to joining the Binx, Sky can be seen around Gotham performing with artists like Square Feet, Zero 360 Band and L*A*W. The Beat Goes On!

Paul ogunsalu is a London born New York City based bass player. After graduating from Berklee College of Music he moved to New York and has played and toured with many artists Including Norah Jones, Santessa, Cantinero, and Twin A. Paul has appeared on The Tonight Show, Rossie O’donell Show, MTV, VH1 and BET. His style enriches the Binx’s bottom.
