The Leisure Principle: Liesa Norman and Dave Thompson
Leisure: freedom from the demands of work or duty.
Principle: a fundamental, primary, or general law or truth from which others are derived.
The Leisure Principle was birthed from two polar opposite musicians; a rocker and a classical flautist who conceived music as their own personal truth, relentlessly exploring Art for Art’s sake. The result is a confusion of fusions; quirky rock-like guitar, jazz, blues, folk, rock, classical, third stream, you name it, it’s in there, topped off with flute and vocals, with a strong, melodic sensibility.
With respective careers that have covered the globe, from the Vancouver Symphony to sharing the stage with Michael Bublé, David Lee Roth, Chantal Kreviatzuk, Kid Rock, Foo Fighters and many more. The LP have been signed to Universal Roadrunner and Koche/Nevada individually, together these two have been touring and performing live for over 25 years.
They couldn’t be more different, the bald rocker and the model/flautist with a PHD, but the one thing they share is their mutual love of music as an art form, discovering harmonic nuance, flirting with polyrhythms and creating evocative sounds through song.
When these two aren’t jet setting around exciting, rural Canada, they are either engaging in riveting conversations about the correct pronunciation of leprechaun or bickering about which vegetable would be the most intelligent if they could talk.
The Leisure Principle is a two piece that can double as a semi-acoustic duo with rocking-jazz guitars and angelic vocals peppered with ethereal flute, or as a fully fledged electronic avant-garde act imbued with propulsive rhythms.
