About Club Bonafide

More Than a Jazz Club

A home for musicians. A room for music lovers.

Club Bonafide was created to bring live music back to 52nd Street with the same open and embracing spirit that once made the neighborhood a global center for jazz.

Co-founder Richard Bona envisioned a venue without rigid genre barriers, where artists can perform, collaborate and connect with audiences in a room that puts music first.

The Original Swing Street

The Spirit of 52nd Street

From the 1930s into the early 1950s, 52nd Street was one of New York City's most important destinations for live jazz. The concentration of clubs was so famous that locals simply called it "The Street."

Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald were among the artists who helped define its sound. Thelonious Monk's "52nd Street Theme" became a jazz standard. Club Bonafide continues that lineage at 212 East 52nd Street with a contemporary room shaped by the same spirit of live performance and discovery.

"The artists have to be able to perform."
Richard Bona

Club Bonafide was built around more opportunities for musicians, greater artistic collaboration and fewer genre barriers. The goal is a fairer, music-first environment where performers can create, connect and build a scene together.
